The following are questions you need to be concerned with before choosing home healthcare for yourself or your loved one. Knowing the answers to these key questions may prevent legal problems and save you money.

Questions If you hire... When Home Staff, LLC hires...
Hiring Process
What do I need to be aware of when hiring someone?
You are responsible for advertising the job, making up an application, interviewing potential employees, performing background checks, and scheduling the employee with the person who needs the care.  This entails a lot of time in phone calls, interviewing, and monitoring work schedules of the employee and the person needing the care. We have been hiring people for 26 years.  We advertise for the work needed.  We schedule the interview and have the employee fill out an application.  We do a criminal background check and check for references and complete a minimum of two. We also handle all the scheduling conflicts.
Employee Supervision
Who will supervise the employee?
You are obligated to supervise and discipline the employee for tardiness, absenteeism, or poor performance. All of our employees receive ongoing training and are supervised by our full time nursing supervisor.  We keep a record of the services performed and of the client's status.
Employee Experience
What do I do if the services change?
You are responsible to match the care needs with the appropriately trained employee. Our experienced caregivers can provide the following services:
  • Nursing
  • Home health care and personal care
  • Housecleaning
  • Heavy cleaning
  • Errands
  • Transporting for appointments and shopping

You do not have to go through another agency if you change the type of services.

Monitoring Client
What if I live out of town and am not able to monitor the person being cared for?
You will have to make sure the employee is monitoring the person being cared for and keeping you informed. Our employees report changes in the client back to the supervisor.  The nurse supervisor oversees care and gives direction as called for.
Work Discrepancies
What if there is discrepancies in the hours worked?
You will need to monitor the hours worked. We keep reports on all services and hours in our office.  Also, the client signs the time card of the employee.
Employee Experience
How do I know what services I need?
You will need to explain the services that you feel are needed. There is always the risk of hiring someone who is not qualified, or trained in what is needed such as lifting and bathing. You also need to check their certifications. We first send someone to assess the needs of the family. We suggest the appropriate type of care and number of hours based on the need.  We also monitor the care, person being cared for, and our staff.
Appropriate care for client
My parent has Alzheimer's and needs special care.  How do I make sure they are getting the care needed?
You will need to monitor the situation. We have training for dementia and Alzheimer patients. The training helps the caregiver to better understand the special needs and problems the client is facing.
Staffing
What if someone calls in sick?
You must find a replacement when staff are sick or on vacation. We find the appropriate employee to fill in for the sick employee.
Trust
How do I know I can trust the employee?
You are responsible for checking their background.  You do not want to place your loved one in an unsafe situation (i.e. abuse, theft). We perform criminal background checks and license checks on all of our employees.
Taxes
What do I do about withholding taxes?
You are responsible for withholding taxes and social security and filing appropriate reports to the government.  If not, then the penalties are severe and result in large fines. We handle the employee taxes and reporting to the government.
Insurance
What if the employee isn't insured?
If you hire the employee and they are injured this could result in a lawsuit or expensive medical bills. We carry liability insurance on all of our staff and they have worker's compensation.
Malpractice
What if there is a malpractice?
If you hire the employee on your own you are responsible. We carry professional liability insurance on all of our employees.
Theft
What if the employee steals a valuable item or money?
You are responsible for the insurance or the cost of the item. Our employees are bonded.
